George Clooney Swaps Hollywood for a Farm in France – And He's Now Officially French

The actor and his family have ditched LA for a quiet life in the French countryside, where the paparazzi leave their kids alone

George Clooney, the Hollywood actor, and his wife Amal, a human rights lawyer, have quietly made a big change in their lives. Last Friday, the French government confirmed that the Clooneys – George, Amal, and their eight-year-old twins, Ella and Alexander – have been granted French citizenship.

This wasn't a spur-of-the-moment decision. Back in 2021, the family bought a peaceful farmhouse in Brignoles, a small village in the south of France. The property, which used to be a wine estate called Domaine du Canadel, became their home – a world away from the flashing cameras and madness of Los Angeles.

George has been open about why France felt right. He praised the country's strong privacy laws, especially the ones that protect children. "Here, they don't take photos of kids. There aren't any paps lurking at the school gates. That's number one for us," he said in a recent radio interview.

He's also talked about how life on the farm has changed things for the better. "They're not glued to their iPads. They have dinner with adults and help wash up afterwards," he told Esquire. For George, who spent part of his own childhood on a farm, this return to a simpler life feels like a proper gift to his children.

The Clooneys still own homes in Italy and England, but it's clear that France has become their safe haven. It's not about being famous or living in luxury – it's about peace, privacy, and giving their kids a normal upbringing.

In a world where being a celebrity usually means constant exposure, the Clooneys have chosen a quieter path. And now, with French citizenship, they've made that choice official.
