Norway PM Tells Trump: Nobel Prize Isn’t Political

Norway’s Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre has reminded US President Donald Trump that the Nobel Peace Prize is not something governments hand out. Responding to Trump’s complaint about being overlooked, Støre explained that the award is decided by an independent Nobel Committee, completely separate from political influence.

Trump had suggested the snub was politically motivated, even linking it to his stance on Greenland. But Støre kept his reply calm and clear: the Norwegian government has no say in who wins. His words underline the integrity of the Nobel process, which has been designed to protect the prize from political interference since its creation.

For Norway, the episode was a chance to reinforce transparency. For Trump, it highlighted his sensitivity about international recognition. And for the rest of the world, it served as a reminder that the Nobel Peace Prize is about genuine contributions to peace, not political favour.
